SeaWorld Orlando Successfully Rehabilitates Mother and Calf Manatee
Reckless and Churro, a mother and calf manatee pair, have returned to Florida waters after over a year of rehabilitation. Rescued in May 2022 by the Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission and SeaWorld following a catastrophic boat strike that left Reckless with life-threatening injuries, while her calf Churro, was no more than a couple days old with a fresh umbilical cord attached. The SeaWorld Rescue team took extraordinary measures to keep the duo together and healthy. With over 17,000 hours of specialized care and life saving procedures, the duo was fitted with tracking belts to ensure their continued health once returned to their natural habitat. The successful rehabilitation of these two female manatees plays a crucial role in achieving our commitment to manatee conservation.
