Humboldt penguins, scientifically known as Spheniscus humboldti, are a species of penguin native to the coasts of Chile and Peru in South America. They are named after the Humboldt Current, which flows along the western coast of South America and creates their habitat. These penguins have distinctive black and white markings, with a black horseshoe-shaped band across their chest and a white face with black eye markings. They primarily feed on fish, squid, and krill. Humboldt penguins are social birds, often forming large colonies for breeding and nesting purposes, displaying strong bonds within their communities.
