Emperor – Record-Breaking Dive Coaster Joins SeaWorld San Diego in 2020
November 20, 2019
Find out how it feels to dive like the great Emperor Penguins on SeaWorld San Diego’s newest coaster, “Emperor” debuting in 2020.
Emperor will be the tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in California. Emperor will also be the only dive coaster in California to be floorless, with your feet dangling above the track with no floor beneath them.
Named for the world’s largest penguin, the new coaster will start by climbing 153 feet in the air and then plunging down a 143-foot facedown vertical drop at more than 60 miles an hour, suspended at a 45-degree angle at the crown. Riders will also experience three inversions: a barrel roll, Immelmann loop, and flat spin. They will also encounter a hammerhead turn as they race along the nearly 2,500 feet of track.
This exciting attraction will also highlight an important new animal-conservation partnership between SeaWorld and Penguins International .This partnership will focus on penguin awareness and the conservation needs of this special aquatic bird. A portion of the proceeds from sales of penguin merchandise at the Emperor retail store will be donated to Penguins International to support their important conservation, education and research efforts.
The new Emperor coaster will be located adjacent to Journey to Atlantis in the southeast corner of the park, and will be built by Bolliger & Mabillard, based in Switzerland. It will join the ranks of the other exciting coasters SeaWorld San Diego has to offer:
Tidal Twister
Tidal Twister was the first ride of its kind in the world when it opened in 2019. Reaching speeds up to 30 mph, riders twist and bank as if they are riding the tide along a tight figure-8 track that includes a dynamic zero-g roll at the center. Riders rock forward and backward until they pick up enough speed to traverse the track forwards, and then backwards.
Electric Eel
While Emperor will take the title of the tallest coaster at SeaWorld San Diego when it opens, Electric Eel will remain the fastest. Riders experience a heartline roll 150 feet in the air after being launched forwards and backwards, reaching a top speed of over 60 mph.
Manta
Soar on the wings of the world’s largest ray on Manta. Fun for kids and adults, Manta features two launches, reaches a top speed of over 40 mph, and dives over 50 feet. Don’t want to brave the coaster? Take a look at some real-life rays at the nearby exhibit!
Journey to Atlantis
SeaWorld San Diego’s first coaster, Journey to Atlantis, is an action-packed adventure with splashing thrills. This popular ride inspired by one of the seas favorite legends features twists, drops, and a splashdown that will leave you soaked.
