Emperor Dive Coaster Grand Opening This YearMarch 11, 2020
Inspired by the Antarctic journey of the majestic Emperor penguin, here at SeaWorld San Diego, we will proudly unveil our new roller coaster in 2020. Emperor, California’s first bottomless dive coaster is a unique experience you won’t want to miss.
Just because penguins can’t fly doesn't mean they don’t take flight. In the Antarctic, Emperor penguins dive off high cliffs into freezing waters to hunt for their prey. The penguins start off at super-high altitudes so that it can dive into the water down to 1,800 feet deep. So, it’s apt that its namesake coaster begins with a 150-foot lift, giving riders an incredible birds-eye view of our park. Then - you guessed it- the coaster takes a facedown, 90-degree angle nose dive. That momentum sends the coaster through harrowing turns, spins, and quick drops while reaching speeds up to 60 miles per hour.
B&M’s newest metal giant, Emperor, is the tallest and fastest dive coaster in California. And it also has a few features that set it apart from other coasters. Maneuvers like the flat spin and hammerhead turn make this coaster unique experience for roller coaster lovers young and old. The floorless ride car makes those barrel rolls and drops a little extra heart-stopping, and allows each loop to feel like a feat of gravity.
As a bonus, make sure to visit the royals themselves. The Emperor Penguins, that is. Did you know that SeaWorld San Diego is the only place in North America to see Emperor penguins? Learn about these amazing creatures and how SeaWorld San Diego takes care of them.
