Welcoming a New Generation of Environmental SuperheroesFebruary 26, 2018
Each year, we welcome a new group of passionate young conservationists from across the country to take part in our mission to protect the ocean and the marine animals that call it home.
These amazing students are our Youth Advisory Council and they are selected annually to serve a two-term based on their community leadership experiences and commitment to environmental causes.
Throughout the year, the group provides input and ideas on SeaWorld’s conservation and education efforts and leads their own initiatives to inspire future generations to care for our planet.
This year, we welcome 11 new members to the group of 18 students. From aspiring marine biologists and animal lovers with a passion for protecting endangered species to founders of conservation organizations and charitable nonprofits that benefit environmental health causes, we are thrilled to partner with them for another year of exciting work.
And they’re already in action during the few short weeks of 2018.
The Council recently kicked off the year at SeaWorld Orlando for a weekend of behind-the-scenes tours, up-close animal experiences, discussions with the rescue teams and even SeaWorld leadership to help set their goals for the year. Two members also joined an OCEARCH expedition for front row access to shark research. One of the group’s top goals for the year is to work with our OCEARCH partner to develop shark education materials for schools.
Stay tuned as we keep you up to date on their journey throughout the year!
